this is the big one! the one that started it all! the oldest characters, the oldest concept!

god i must have tried to write this seven billion times.

ONE: THE HOUSE IS HAUNTED

emerald and oleander are looking at real estate in a new place. emerald is touring a place by herself- oleander has a harder time getting off work since they're a teacher as opposed to a butcher. it's ole's lunch, so emerald has her on a call. oddly, the real estate agent was trying to downplay the house and won't tour with her. ze lets her in the house and... leaves? or like, stays on the porch. the reason why is the house is haunted. emerald stumbles upon tim and hangs up on oleander. tim is a little annoyed about the real estate agent- apparently the house needs an owner, and soon, because dee, who currently owns the house, needs to go do a thing. tim offers to show emerald around instead. she accepts. it's a great house! eme clearly likes it, and explains the whole thing to ole when she comes by. they buy the house and move in.

TWO: THE GHOST IS FEARED

emerald and oleander settle in. dee sometimes shows up for coffee. tim is becoming more powerful as he feeds on the love of the house. cookie shows up and is terrifying. emerald snaps at cookie, who laughs but says emerald has potential. tim has been swinging between 'fuck you fuck you fuck you' and scared shitless. he eventually reveals what his Whole Deal is: he killed, and was killed by, a god. specifically, The Killed God, the god that no one remembers, the god that was cookie's father. yeahhh.....

THREE: THE GOD IS TIRED

interlude: dee in the deaths. there is so much fucking paperwork.

FOUR: THE TEACHER IS ???

this is like a year later or so. something terrible happens to a few of oleander's students. they are PISSED. they know that the students will likely not keep in contact after they graduate, but while the kids are under their care they will live up to their family legacy. after a terrifying performance, oleander tells tim their whole deal.
this is the weakest link

FIVE: THE BUTCHER IS ENCOURAGED

emerald gets an offer of apprenticeship from a witch who knows cookie. she debates learning magic versus joining the butcher shop full time (she was an apprentice). her butcher mentors say to go and learn what she can, and if she wants to come back they will be happy to have her. tim and oleander are similarly encouraging- even though she will have to move away from them for a time. tim shows emerald and oleander that the house has a slate that makes up the whole dang wall. emerald goes and meets lots of new people while learning. her witchmentor is called clef kindly, their husband is rubato kindly, there are other people around. one of those people is justin fox, a vampire from the place emerald is living. he wants to go back but his job, and also everyone else, thinks he's dead. to be fair he kind of is. emerald offers a room in the house after telling tim and ole about her new friend.

SIX: THE LOVERS ARE REUNITED

surprise! emerald's new friend justin who will be living with them now is tim's long lost boyfriend! what a twist! welcome home ;)
