In Which Some Ghost Hunters Have an Encounter

Though the house was long abandoned, there had been reports of mysterious noises coming from it. A neighbor to the house asked the crew of a starting ghost hunting show to come by and check it out. They were just starting out, but had a fairly solid starting base - two of the four were trained magic users, and the other two had good knowledge of theory.

The house was dark and falling apart, but clean of rot or dust. Max could sense Death magic coming from the back rooms. The crew carefully made their way through the house, recording everything they found interesting. Eventually, they heard a voice muffled through the walls. It sounded like someone was on a phone call, but they couldn’t quite tell what the voice was saying.

The crew crept closer, cautiously opening the door to the last room. In the room was a tall, pale woman in a dark dress. She was staring down intently at something on the table, and talking to it.

“Did you even file the request form?” the woman asked whoever she was talking to.

“I know you think you’re above that, but nothing is above paperwork. I don’t care who does it, it just needs to be filed under your name.” She sighed. “Just get a follower to do it for you.

“No.

“No he won’t. He doesn’t have the patience, and he isn’t your follower anyway.”

The crew looked to each other, and shrugged. They moved back, keen to discuss what was going on.

“Thoughts?” Rayer asked.

“I don’t think she’s a ghost,” Seara said quietly.

“She’s definitely where the death magic is coming from, though,” Max said, “what else could she be?”

“We could just ask,” Kenwood said.

Rayer hummed in agreement. “Alright, if she’s finished in the next five minutes, we’ll ask her, otherwise we’ll leave.”

“That’s reasonable,” a fifth voice said. The crew jumped and turned around, and the woman smiled at them from the doorway. “I have some things to do here yet, but you can follow me and ask questions while I do them if you’d like.”

The crew looked to Rayer, who shrugged. “Alright.”

The woman nodded, then asked, “Who are you all?”

“I’m Seara, that’s Rayer, Max, and Kenwood.”

“We’re ghost hunters!” Max chimed.

Dee laughed. “And have you... found any?”

“Not yet! But I’m sure we will!”

Rayer chuckled, then asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m Dee.”

“What are you doing here?”

D “A coworker left something here a while ago and forgot about it until now, and he needs it in like two days or something but he’s busy.”

M “Was that who you were talking to?”

S “What do you do for work?”

D “It was. And I do Community Service.”

R “....what?”

D laughs

K “I don’t think I’ve heard of you, though.”

D “Oh! No, no, you wouldn’t’ve. I’m mostly the one who enforces paperwork, I don’t actually have a following. Mostly.”

M “Kenwoooood. What does that meeeean”

D laughs

K “do more research.”

S “Kenwood, you are the main researcher. We do research, just not as much as you do.”

K “then you would know what she is. she’s not like, hiding it at all.”

D “I’m really not. This is funny though.”

R “I feel like I read something about community service but I don’t know. Could you please tell us?”

D “I, am a death god.”

M “WHAT.”

S “huh.”

D “And because you were fairly polite, I’ll tell you a secret. About haunted houses.”

R “please”

D “There’s always someone living in them. Always. If there isn’t someone living in the house, and loving the house, then a ghost can’t be tethered to it.”

RSMK are speechless.

D “Anyway, I found the thing. Would you all like to have a chat in a more, stable area? I can call up a friend to see if he’d let me use his living room for a moment.”

S “Does he know about this kind of stuff too?”

D, looking wild “Ha! He is this kind of stuff.

T “Dee, good to see you. And ghost hunters, hello.”
